Hey there, Water Walkers and Water Walker Wannabes:

Minutes ago, I visited Novelist Rhonda McKnight's FB page as she shared about her mom crying when she received copies of Rhonda's new book, An Inconvenient Friend.

Tears of joy. I love it! Gives me hope; but surprisingly, also, brought up pain.

You see, my books are nonfiction. In my case, my mom still spews displeasure, hate, and venom anytime my last book, I Say A Prayer For Me, is mentioned, comes to mind. Recently, she let me know that she doesn't want to see the new one or anything else I write. It hurts. But write on, I must.

She also doesn’t want to know anything about me speaking anywhere. If I never got another opportunity to speak it; she would love it. But God opens doors, and I speak on. I must.

Now, writing this—my feelings—my experience, I feel censured by some whispered unwritten rule created to rise up against my voice steeped in what have become my greatest allies, TRANSPARENCY and HONESTY.

While I’m living within the my passion and I believe God's purpose for my life, it alienates me from the woman who birthed the woman I was destined and designed to be. Out of respect and to keep the peace, with the one woman I love above all women—my mother; what I do, is unspoken. Sometimes, it’s best to understand rather than be understood.

Sometimes, truth hurts!

But to acknowledge and embrace who God has called us to be; we must acknowledge and let go of who we were when, by Grace, He chose to extract us from the dark and into His marvelous light. The moment this wonderful new reality hits us, this grace and mercy that we’ve so freely received, we give up the world’s way—of secrets and sequestered lies that we thought were keeping us afloat and who we really were hidden from the world. Instead, we yield to what no eye has seen or ear has heard—the blessings of a saved life; the wondrous plans and purposes for our lives, as sifted gold through the Fingers of God.

But God’s truth always sets FREE!

I need to put about 5 piece band together for a show/concert my son & I are looking to produce right after Thanksgiving holidays. Guitar, bass, keyboards, violin, and percussionist. Things That Make You Say, "Wow!"

As people are visiting my FB page, where I’ve posted my story as first told on The 700 Club 25 years ago, a lot of responses include or a singular “wow.” It seems that the video is just as anointed—as powerful, as the day they filmed it. As the evening I lived my crossover from death to eternal life. My leap out of darkness into the marvelous light.

Folks are posting comments which show me that God is STILL meeting its viewers within the frames—within the words. I’m humbled and at His feet—gratefully and joyfully so!

It seems that I was born again with WOW written into my new DNA. One WOW experience after another since being clean and free. How He did it, opportunities He's brought my way, peoples He's chosen to walk along beside me at all the stages of my life. All WOW. And the titles and concepts that have emerged through the pain and woven into my healing. All wow. Walking on Water When The Ground Ain't Enuf (started off with just the title).

Then a year or so later; my son suggested I put together a performance and showcase the talents God gave me. We picked a date. He found a venue. Then he asked, “What do you want to call it?” Without hesitation, I announced with the surety of a DreamWorks™ green-lighted project, Walking on Water When The Ground Ain't Enuf: A One-Woman Experience. My son and I premièred the show January 2007 to a standing room only crowd of 250 at Cada Vez on historic U Street NW, Washington, DC.

From there, it went on the road to Hartford, CT; Fayetteville, NC; Chicago, IL, back to DC, then Prince George’s County, and pieces of the show go wherever I’m asked to speak or perform. Spokentry/Poetry here. Monologues there. A song or two thrown in. Stand-up comedy sandwiched in understanding that laughter heals too.

In the process, The WOW Zone™ was born. And a tagline, laid into my mind like a soft feather pillow: Where walking on water is a way of life.

And now the new book, Walking on Water When The Ground Ain't Enuf, Book 1 in The WOW Zone™ series...for water-walkers and water-walker wannabes. And last Sunday, July 25^th, my son & I, produced another event that allowed me to set my light on a bushel—showcase the gifts & talents God gave me.

Nobody but God could orchestrate such things. Even the hard and painful things built in between are not wasted. These are, I believe, what makes the light shine brighter and farther. Yes, only God can design such beautiful and marvelous things. Things that make you say, “Wow!”

“I know where my help comes from. My Help comes from The Lord; the Maker of Heaven and Earth!” (from Psalm 121)

Being a woman who haas survived one abusive relationships too many - I will say this, women + men if u find yourself being emotionally, physically, verbally, spiritually or any other type of abuse - GET OUT. You don't deserve to be treated with anything other than TLC. Ask for help, Save yourself and definitely save your children BEFORE it gets to deadly stages. That's what I took away from the documentary.

Geneva Jean Moon John, I appreciate your concern that women look before they leap, but some women have dated men for years and never saw any abuse until after marriage. If you friends, family and church approve, and you do not know the signs or do not see the signs, how is the woman to blame?

Geneva Jean Moon and John, I am not advocating killing anyone either. I'm merely responding to the topic of blaming the woman for making the wrong choice. Since ministers are some of the worst abusers (statics prove this at battered women shelters), then for certain, it is not always seen before marriage.

Stanice Anderson Yes, Geneva, I'm with you on every point. I went to my pastor with the perpetrator (my 2nd husband) and when I told him what was happening, all he did was tap his hearing aid and said "you two have to work it out." To this day, I think hi...s batteries were dead. He couldn't have heard what I said. But then too, sometimes you see the signs--you look but you think you're not seeing right. Or you want to be loved so badly and this is some kind of faulty love but it's love none the less. Or you've been so bruised even before you get to adult hood by those that claim to love you; you think this IS what love looks like. At least all the love that you deserve. And so the convo continues on my page. Lord, have your way, YOU are the POTTER; I am but clay.

Update: Let's Go To PRINT PARTY was G-O-O-D!

District 51 and Shout Glory LLC presented Stanice Anderson’s Let’s Go To PRINT PARTY, Sunday, July 25^th at Liv (The BREAkFAST kLUB) on 11^th & U St., NW (atop the historic Bohemian Caverns), Washington, DC

We made our way to the venue in a thunderSTORM. Wow, it was intense! Had to pull over a couple of times. I thought I saw super cells trying to form into funnels. Too many "storm chaser" shows? It was scary. Found out later, there WAS a tornado watch in affect. I'm sure it had an impact on people's decisions to come to the event. But still quite a few, braved the elements; or like me didn’t know there was a tornado watch. So, those that didn’t make it, you were there in spirit! My prayer was for everyone to be safe.

We had a great time. I performed with all my heat like it was a crowd of thousands. Thank you, Thank you for coming! God blessed us, indeed! I'll post photos later.

I was tearing up by the 3rd photo. I love how God does a thing! I've been struggling so hard since before the year came in. So much pain (with double knee surgery and all) and yet through it all, I see the light of God present in me and in the day and in each of you that came out to support me. Nothing stopped us from walking on water! Now, I'm straight up crying. Might as well get a "Praise God from whom all blessings flow up in here." THANK YOU, JESUS!!! I'm doing better than I know.

For all you "cougars" who think you are done having children, don't be surprised if you wake up and find out that even though you've been careful or medically fixed, etc., yes even at your age, you're pregnant. That would be something, huh? LOL! I'm doing my congratulations now!

Stanice on Facebook on FB: great discussion starter. Then there are life-threatening & ending illnesses that can result from risky behaviors (w/o condoms). Even with condoms (I'm sure there are faulty condoms making it off the conveyor belt of thousands per minute.) When I gave my son his "talk" at 13, I let him pick out what he believed to be a safe condom. I had him fill with water. As he watched this condom become a hanging fountain, I rested my case. I confessed AFTERWARD that I added a few pin holes BEFORE our talk. I mean, it could happen. Tricky Mommy.

11/4/08 Election Night: As I sit here watching MSNBC and participating in a moment that will go down as one of the most significant moments not only in history but in my life, I am reduced to tears at the thought of how privileged I am to be witnessing the process of electing a black man as President. And to think that I played a part in making it so. I felt so proud to show off my I voted sticker today. And even though I have voted previously, all previous times paled in comparison to the vote which I cast today. Fortunately, I have grown up never feeling as though I was not capable of doing whatever I set my mind to. I was never restricted by my Parents. All dreams were supported. I was told I could do anything, be anything, accomplish anything, do anything. However, I think for most of us, there has always been an unspoken understanding that while you may be able to be whatever you want, there is absolutely one exception. But to be blessed enough to be living in a time where I can see that dispelled is beyond words. There will be a black family in the white house! What my Grandparents must be experiencing is unfathomable. But to know that I can do absolutely anything is beyond words and the best part is that I will be able to look the three beautiful blessings that are my children, in the eye and DEFINITIVELY say that you can do anything, be anything, accomplish anything ...no exception, is beyond words. I can't wait till they awaken in the morning and I can tell them just that. They fell asleep praying for Barack Obama and to wake up to their prayers having been answered makes my heart smile for them. But they will never know the limitations that I once knew. For them, they will not know any different. There will never be a question as to whether they can be President or anything else for that matter. Praise God!

A Prophetic Word for You . . .

Refuse to allow your circumstances to circumvent your faith. Your faith is your most powerful possession. Do not open the door for the enemy to undermine your effectiveness through doubt and unbelief. Be steadfast and immovable. Believe, and then speak. Speak out of the abundance of your heart with undaunted faith. Speak forth the word of truth, says the Lord.

Romans 1:17 For in it (the Gospel of Christ) the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "The just shall live by faith."

April through June will be a time of favor to those in order. This will be a time of favor with man because we will be walking under the umbrella of God's favor. Seeds planted in the first quarter will begin to spring up. It will be a time of advancement, accomplishment and prosperity. The rewards will be well worth the effort that was required to get in divine order.
This quarter will be a time of revelation with regards to God's purposes for the end of the age. The hidden manna (mysteries) of God will come to His people. Covenant promises will be fulfilled in this season, and it will be a time of great blessings.

September 10, 2001 My husband left me tonight...but life goes on...God being my helper. I will not be defeated!! I will not worry...for it changes nothing...My God promises that He will supply all my needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus. I will stand on that Word. Yes, I cry for what is lost. I cry...but only when I focus on my situation without factoring God into my situation. But with God, I know that all things are possible! Because Jesus is alive and real...I know the end of this story...I WIN!!!!!

September 11, 2001 The scene is so horrific, surreal, and apocalyptic. The World Trade Center Towers, the pentagon...airplanes crashed into these buildings. Towers actually collapsed! untold number of people dead, maimed, missing, in hospitals, trapped...there is chaos in America...satan is celebrating as is his job to manipulate us to seek, kill, steal, and destroy each other. My God, come soon Lord Jesus....mankind is not doing well on it's own at all. Reports of mothers and fathers killing their children...signaled to me the beginning of the end to life as we once knew it...i knew it had to get worse. And today...it has... All that has happened today...makes my concerns seem scrawny and trivial. So my husband left me last night...I sit here typing---updating my website in the comfort of my home. Many, because of the events of this day, will never come home again. I mourn not for the seeming death of my marriage, but with my nation...my people...the hopes, dreams, lives lost. And I cry with those who love them whose lives will be forever changed because of the events of this day. God strengthen, hold in the palm of Your hands, those that will be unable to sleep tonight, those who are crying out to you for mercy and to bring their loved ones home. Please give us what we need at the exact moment that the need arises...the things that we need that we cannot give to ourselves like peace in the midst of the turmoil, your perspective, courage, and fearlessness. For you have not given us a spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind. And, God thank you that you will render justice on behalf of your people.

Lord, Search My Heart

I have a Feast on THE WORD Gathering at my home once a month. Well, at the one two weeks ago...my son had a special request. He asked the ladies, "Before leaving could you pray for my mom about finishing a writing project. She's really having major problems." Well, right there at the door my six sisters in Christ and my son, laid hands on me and asked God to get my creative juices a'flowin'.

The resulting testimony? Talk about getting real...

Days prior, through prayer and talking with my pastor, the Holy Spirit revealed that I had not truly forgiven my mother. In addition to confirmation, my son's request and the subsequent laying on of hands shed light on the connection to my unforgiving spirit and the blockage in my writing. I needed to deal with that FIRST--forgive once for all.

I made a conscious decision to forgive my mother and once i did that (God brought an opportunity that I seized. This past Sunday, my granddaughter and I went to see my mom with her favorite food--cooked Maryland crabs in tow. From the moment my mom greeted us at the door I noticed that all twinges of resentment and uneasy feelings that I alway felt in her presence...WERE GONE. we had a blessed time together.

After that visit, the writing and a whole lot more broke loose and began to flow!!! flow and flow.

At 4:00 a.m. this morning, (7/20) I clicked "send" on and email to my agent with the "Introduction" attached for what I hope will be my next book. She asked me to write it and send it to her in March. Try as I did...it was not happening. I felt like Jacob must have felt wrestling with God and I was loosing--until I obeyed and forgave. I'm shouting my granddaughter, Michal's favorite praise, Halleleujah! Thank you, Jesus!!!!

Inspiration Cometh...Soon Lord?

Recently, the founder of a national book club* asked, "What inspires you to write?"

My answer?

Gratitude and my fervent desire to fully use my gifts and talents so that God gets as much glory as possible out of this life that He so graciously spared—compels me to write. For me, compelled begets inspiration. While procrastination is one of my weaknesses, discernment and faith are two of my strengths. Thus, when the pain of not writing becomes greater than the pain and toil I often find within the act of writing—then, I write. Writing is my cross and reward.

When first I saw the headline in the NY Times this morning:

Ex-Chairman of Enron Dies
"Kenneth L. Lay died of a heart attack, early reports said. He faced a long prison term for ten counts of fraud and conspiracy..."

I thought, "Wow, he got away!"

But my second and most peaceful thought was:

"No, now like the Hebrew National Hot Dog commercial says, 'We have to answer to a higher authority.' And so does, the late-Lay."

WORD...

"Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment..." Hebrews 9:27 (NIV)

"For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil." Ecclesiastes 12:14 (NIV)

So it is...so shall it ever be.

THE TESTIMONY

A Badge of Hope

Let’s start with great news…I have been accepted as a member of the Black Women Playwrights’ Group (BWPG).

The Black Women Playwrights' Group was founded in 1989. Members range from the very young writer to those who have been nationally recognized for the excellence of their work. The purpose of the organization is to support, promote and refine the work of its members. BWPG offers a unique opportunity for members to work as a collective moving each other to higher levels of expression.

Tuesday, June 20, 2006, the second night's performance of their 17th Annual Staged Reading, Everyday Gumbo, at The Source Theatre in Washington, DC, Lois Wiley (Playwright and member) presented me with a name badge. It was the group's wonderful way of surprising me with the news of being selected as their newest member. I donned my new badge and excitedly served as the event's greeter, hoping to make each theatre goer feel welcomed.

Peppered with the procession of people, were thoughts of how the Lord led me to the organization. It all started with a call to author and playwright, Joy Jones. I told her of my desire to finish a script for my one-woman show and asked for any assistance she could give me. At the time, I did not know she was member of BWPG nor did I know that the group existed. I took her suggestions which included initating a call to the group's founder, Playwright Karen L.B. Evans.

I met the criteria of going to three monthly meetings and on the 3rd meeting I submitted the script for my one-woman show. By the 5th monthly meeting, they had not told me if I made it in. In the meantime, I praised God for leading me to this group of brilliantly talented women and I was going to keep going to the meetings until they told me not to come. That never happened, of course, but Tuesday night and the badge did.

My name is Stanice and I'm the newest member of Black Women Playwrights' Group. Now, I just gotta pay my annual dues :)

Back to Tuesday night. The BWPG Staged Reading was a TOTAL SUCCESS and the theatre was packed. It was WONDERFUL. The evening consisted of excerpts from seven plays written by members.

"The amazing excerpts had audiences laughing, crying and reflecting, as the extraordinary and ordinary are served up in one delectable dish, Everyday Gumbo ." The showcase included the following pieces: Miles to Go by Pamela Armstrong deVreeze; Spectator Sport by e. christi Cunningham; The Workout by Debbie Minter Jackson; The Last Bus Ride by Maria Jones; Marie by Debra Mims; Listening to Momma by Debra Rose; and The Plane Truth by Lois A. Wiley.

The actors were superb and their performances notable, indeed! I felt proud and humbled to be a part of this blessed group.

I'd like to share with you what I've learned, so far, from this experience: (1) to continue to follow the Holy Spirit's leading (as I was led to the info about the group and there was an inner nudge to initiate contact) and (2) follow-through with an open mind and heart to receive the blessing, (3) be willing to stick and stay even though on a low-self-esteem day you may start to question , "Why am I here?", (4) listen to critisim of your work for there will be hidden treasures peppered throughout that will benefit you AND THE WORK, and (5) let go enough to make the most of every opportunity and leave the results to God.
Lord, I thank you for this and all things. Continue to use the experience to make and mold me into the plans you have for my life. And use me to bless those that this experiences allows me to touch. Amen. So be it!

Simple Specific Prayer WORKS

A reader-friend and sister in Christ, Valerie in New Brunswick, New Jersey emailed me on June 16, 2006 the following:

"...pray for my sister, i have no idea where she is"

Later on June 16th, guided by the Holy Spirit I wrote back to Valerie:

"Consider it done. God knows exactly where she is and I’m asking Him to have her call someone in the fam within 3 days. She is all right."

June 20th, Valerie emailed me the following:

"SWEET JESUS! HE DID IT! MY FRIEND IN FAYETTVILLE, NC EMAILED ME AND SAID MY SISTER CALLED HER. IT WAS ON JUNE 19TH! GOD BLESS YOU"

Valerie, I receive that blessing in the Name of Jesus. Amen. So be it!

How do you get a prayer through when you are sitting at a desk and cannot pray outwardly?

Stanice Says...
Inaudibly. God is omnipresent. He is in us, through us, all around us, under us over us, surrounds us, envelopes us so (1) envision myself in the Throne room of God...I ask the Holy Spirit to usher me there ...take a minute...go there in the Spirit and think a prayer...say it in my mind with all my heart, and (2) light barely audible grunts and moans, as part of and along with using my heavenly language which I know prays in the perfect will of God, (3) write out a prayer...close my eyes and just type. (4) Sometimes I sing...thinking the song, actually singing or humming the song... Then there was always the go to the bathroom to the last stall at any place of employment I may be...and down to the garage...must admit this habit came about during my smoking cigarette days...but after I stopped smoking I knew I could walk that garage and talk to God and tell Him all about whatever. I could also mentally and spiritually start my day over again after talking with Him. Bottom line...the beauty and purpose of prayer is to be in His Presence...sometimes it's communicating with Him and always Him communicating with me. I'm just renewed having spent time with him...whether 30 seconds or 1 hour... the results are the same...peace even in the midst of a raging storm.

When I Am Weak...

I'm not as strong a woman as I'd like to think that I am. I am frail sometime, I am weak... but because most of my journey so far has been without the benefit of a loving, kind and good man... I've had to seek God for what I don't possess in the flesh. Still sometimes, I have to put a voice to my fears just to hush them.

My dearest, Gloria “Tootie Jo" Brown Frasier, I thought I had to deal with a lot of names and the baggage that's sometimes attached to them.

Check me out (ex-husbands included). Stanice "Stacey" Lucretia Anderson-Grandy-Smith-Jenkins almost -Ghaffar a/k/a Kemba Ali Intersar (which means "Faithful Until the Victory"). What victory? Not a clue. Confusing to you? Confusion was a way of life for me.

One day I made a prayerful decision and boldly declared to the world on the outgoing message on my answering machine, “All I want for Christmas is my birth name back.” By that Christmas I had paid the DC Courts over $150 and gone through the two-month process to become once and for all who I was birthed to be – the semi-unadulterated -- Stanice Lucretia Anderson.

My Dearest Gloria, it feels like a place called home. Finally, I’s free now!

To know that YOU KNOW. We are trusting YOU and all that YOU KNOW and WHO YOU ARE...the great I AM that I AM. Our Father who would not give us a stone when we ask for water. Holy Spirit empower us to walk with God with every step that makes up our lives. And we we veer off the right road, gently guide us and urge us back on the road. And when we get weary and want to give up and just lay on the side of the road, energize us with the inspiration and enthusiasm--that makes up the very breath of God. We ask this in Jesus' Name. The Simple Truth vs. A Million Little Pieces and Oprah

As a memoirist, I must recount the simple truth. Mine is not to spin some tale woven from tattered and fabricated lives.

I must recount the simple truth with myself as the core of the apple eaten in my own Eden and with God as the vine on which it grows.

The simple truth, wrapped in moments I actually lived, and I am to rely on those moments to speak universal truth into your life. Thus, it gives both you and me clarity and purpose.

The simple truth sequestered in my mind until birthed onto pages and allowed to flourish and bear fruit in the light of day.

Truth is THE essence and not a by-product strained from lies.

It is not the Oprahs or the New York Times bestseller lists that we’re to seek, fear, or allow to define us—but God—only God.

It is our responsibility to tell the simple truth and nothing but the truth—so help us, God.

’Tis a sacred trust of which each of us will stand alone and accountable before God—on some preordained day.

As memoirists, we’d do well to etch Galatians 1:10 into our hearts, “Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ.” (New International Version)

Love Letters Straight From The Heart

Dear Son,

My first grandchild, Michal Zoe, is ever changing and still quite the stunning one. I shared some photos with a friend and she wrote me back, “Lord have mercy, she favors YOU. She’s such a cutey.”

Although I don’t quite see it, it was good for GrandMoms to hear. Generations of genes on both sides are there--as with you, as with me. It’s amazing isn’t it? The creative power of God. It’s like He loves us so much, that he wants to perpetuate us here on earth as well as in Heaven. Us, there with Him—eventually—with new immortal bodies that will never wear out AND remnants of us, here.

Dear Moms,

That creative power of God is something else. You should jot that down in a notebook. The way you describe things or see the God in things is a gift.

Dear Father God,

On Wednesday, December 28, 2005, you added the twins! My first grandson—Arin and another granddaughter—Nya.. “Thank You” seems a not-so-creative nor adequate way to express my heart towards you. Please accept my daily surrendered life—instead. So be it! So it is!

An E-mail Exchange Between Stanice and an Anonymous Mother... It begins:

Anonymous Mother: Thank you for your book.........as I struggle with a heroin addicted child, I am able to find the better of this heart wrenching part of my life......that all things are possible through God.....that God loves us all..........that we are all given the free will to choose our way.

I also thank you for your chapters on "God Bless The Child" and "Mortal Man" which so aptly explain the inner thoughts and feelings of my husband towards my son. I was convinced that you probably were peeking through my windows when you wrote these chapters but then of course I didn't know you and this was written long before my situation began. I realized we are not alone in our circumstances of life. It give us some feeling of normalcy to know others are experiencing the same......and the only constant through all of this is God........always was, always is, always will be.......and always ready to come to us when we're ready to open our door.

I thank you and will continue to pray for your ministry and I will remember what you have written about your life. Whenever I become frustrated or discouraged with my child's choices, I will remember that God is there, watching and waiting with open arms for my son to come to Him........

God promised long before I finished the manuscript that He would meet each reader within the pages exactly where they were…and you are yet another testimony to God being faithful and keeping His Word!!!!

I read your email to Omie (my friend since childhood and ministry partner that you met in the book) over the phone this morning and we praised God together for your testimony and for your life and for your child. Hopefully, there will come a time, when I can come your town (no matter where it is) to share my testimony and perhaps have a book discussion with whomever the Lord draws to whatever I believe that He will set up through you one day.

I love you, my sister in Christ Jesus and I look forward to meeting you on some God-ordained day. I pray that God continues to bless you and prosper your spirit as He is doing. I pray for your child, that God does for your child what He has done for me. That your child’s steps will turn toward Home to Jesus and that He will restore what the canker worm has eaten. I pray that your ministry to others in similar situation will flourish as your soul continue to flourish in all the God has deposited in you. I’m excited and expecting God to act mightily on your behalf. For Him a good Name. I’m thank You, Lord right now for the miracle you are in the midst of performing even as I write this email…seeking only your face. In Jesus’ Name. Amen. So be it, indeed!

Anonymous Mother: A few weeks ago, I sent you an e-mail entitled "I Love You". Well, the child I referred to in my e-mail overdosed lastnight..............he's alive. I called the Teen Challenge program in ________ and they said they were full.........actually my son called them and they explained they were full......I thought perhaps that my son hit 'rock botto' after overdosing lastnight.......time will tell.....but in the meantime, I pray, Stanice, that the Lord God, Almighty, make an opening for him where there is no opening.........and I know that will happen if it is in my son's heart to get the 'real deal' treatment for his heroin abuse...i.e. that he turn it over to God. What are the chains that bind him from seeking God's help?

As I love my son very much, I cannot continue to live like this anymore........I have two other children, ages 15 & 16 and a husband. Everyone tells me to 'kick him out' ........I don't know what is right or wrong anymore. What does your personal experience tell you about 'a parent no longer wanting the problem in their home'? Does it weaken the bind that perhaps gives him the will to continue to live everyday? Would I be sending him to be sacrificed by the world if I 'kick him out'?

Dear God, I thank you for Stanice and what she has accomplished and overcome.......she gives us all a glimpse of hope that my son can overcome this demon. I pray dear God, that you get in my son's head like you have never done before and provide him a way out of his 'hell' ...an opening where there is none...a determiination where there is just a little right now.....and the ability to see that we really LOVE him and he needs to break the chains that bind him. Amen! Thanks Stanice,

Stanice: AMEN!!! Thank you, Jesus! For sparing his life!!!!! Open up the doors for ______’s son, Lord. Make the help available to him and the willingness on His part to receive and actively seek that help. Plant a hope that out shines all despair and gets him to press his way…just like you did for me Lord, Do for him.

_____, let me say this, my mom – shut the door on me… my dad…years before my mom shut the door on me…and while it seem like THE cruelest thing any parents could ever do… you know what it did for me – It gave me no choice but to CRY OUT TO GOD. No one else was there. I can’t tell you what you need to do…no one can, my sister in Christ – but Christ – as He will lead you through our Counselor—Our Helper—the Holy Spirit. We have to trust, if we know God like we say we know Him we got to show it by letting go and letting Him! Trusting Him like our next breath depends on it—AND IT DOES. As long as there is breath—there is hope! You are doing the right thing…you are seeking God first. Just like His Word instructs you…

Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Pray it out using God’s prescription… Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Anonymous Mother: Thank you so very much for your very thorough and personal response. Shortly after I sent my e-mail to you, the story of Abraham and his son, Isaac, came to mind ( Genesis 22:1-14 ). How difficult it must have been for Abraham to take Isaac to the mountaintop thinking that his only son would be sacrificed.....letting my son go could result in death from overdose, a killing by a drug'lord', even diseases such as hepatitis or HIV. It's almost as if I'm letting him go to be sacrificed....but like Abraham, I much trust and I believe God is testing my limitations of my commitment to Him. The test is, "Do I really trust God?" and of course, I do.

In your distress you called and I rescued you, I answered you out of a thundercloud; I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Psalm 81:7

I pray that He launches you out into the deep as you are fishers of men, women, and children, in the manner and with the gifts that He has assigned to you. And that He make that path so clear that you understand and receive the Holy Spirit's enablement and empowerment to walk it out in your daily life. I also pray for you who don't know YET Jesus as Your Lord and Savior. I dare you to pray, "Lord, that woman, Stanice, said that YOU are REAL and that YOU Want to have a relationship with me. If you are real and if you do--show yourself to me and make it soooo plain that it is YOU calling me...that even I will know it, feel it, hear it in my heart so loudly...over all the clutter that vyies for my attention on a daily basis." I Would Rather Live!

This morning, a good friend and sister in Christ, Lois, took the time and emailed me this photo along with these few potent words:

"I would rather live my life as if there is a God, and die to find out there isn't, than live my life as if there isn't, and die to find out there is."

I, in turn, feel led to share it with you and offer to walk with you as Jesus Christ, personally, through the resurrection power of the Holy Spirit, leads you through the "next steps." This is not a coincidence nor an accident that you are right here, right now. You must have been praying and/or somebody's praying for you. I know I have and it's likely that we've never even met. But in the spirit, we have...more than likely I have been where you are right now and I can tell you...through it all and perhaps even because of it all--IT'S GONNA BE ALL RIGHT. If it brought you to this day...to this crossroad--then, IT'S ALL GOOD.

Yes, even inaudible prayers have been seeping up out of your heart now for awhile and I thank God that He leads me even now to let you know that He has heard your prayers and that what he offers you is NOT RELIGIOSITY but RELATIONSHIP. A personal and intimate relationship with the Himself made possible only through His Son, Jesus Christ. John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Billy Graham fanned the fire of spiritual clarity in my heart one day when I heard him say, "Religion is man's way of trying to reach God but Jesus Christ is God's way of trying to reach man."

THIS IS THE DAY OF GOD'S FAVOR.

If you haven’t already, you can pray, right this minute. Why wait for a time that you don't know that you have? I didn’t wait. I was in my self-imposed dungeon of an apartment when I asked Jesus to come into my life and He did! Right where I was!

Pray with me…"Heavenly Father, I come to You in the Name of Jesus. Your Word says, "Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Acts 2:21). I am calling on You. I pray and ask Jesus to come into my heart and be Lord over my life according to Romans 10:9-10 which says, "If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." I do that now, Father, I confess that Jesus is Lord, and I believe in my heart that God raised Him from the dead.

I am a Christian - a child of Almighty God, I am born again and I am saved! Amen!"

Congratulations, on your brand new beginning! You have just made the absolute, very best decision of your entire life!

And now, I say a pray for YOU.

Father God, I pray now for my new siblings through Christ Jesus. What a joy! Do for them what you've done for me and MORE besides. Reveal the plans You alone know that you have for their lives, plans for prosperity and not disaster. Your plans to give them a future and a hope just as You say in Your Word in the 29th chapter of Jeremiah, verses 11 through 14. Fill them now with your Holy Spirit so that they can do all things through Christ who strengths them. I ask this in Jesus' Name. Amen. So be it!

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. (New International Version)

Barbara, my friend, I seize this opportunity to thank you—again—for inspiring me to explore my God-given talents and gifts—including motherhood.

It was you who took the time to coach me into singing at my first talent show. Through your patience and prodding during rehearsals, I was able to go from singing with my back to the audience, to slowly developing the courage to face the audience with my eyes closed, of course, to the night of the show where I was belting out my songs with the confidence of a diva. You, Barbara, showed me how to fly! As if that wasn't enough, you helped me develop a mother's consciousness that I lacked at the start of my recovery journey. Remember that same night at the talent show, I had my son with me, he was only about 9 years old and once I started singing, I took it to the extreme and felt the need to sing back up for everybody and all at the expense of my precious son--it was getting late and all he wanted to do was go home? You took the risk and intervened.

Well, I remember and those moments were so significant to me -- so life changing for both myself and my son that I recanted it in last book, "...Stanice, take that boy home! He's tired and he should be home and in his bed asleep this time of night...I could smell the greasy potato chips that lingered on her breath as she stood almost nose-to-nose with me. As she reared her neck back, her freshly spiraled Jerri curls shook and shone under the bright corridor light. Like bullets, her words shot out of the barrel of her month: 'Look girl, you already sang your last song. Cut! That's a wrap! The show's over for you! Now, take that boy home.'

"Barbara, listen You--"

"No, Stanice you gonna listen to what I have to say and I don't care how much you don't like it. You always talk about wanting to learn how to be a good mother. Well consider this your first lesson! Your child's needs MUST come before your own. Look at him. What are his needs at this moment?"

You were so right, my friend. I submitted to your "tough love" and I thank God that you took the time and loved me enough to help me.

Mike is now 29 and through the years we have developed an incredibly loving and nurturing relationship. And now Mike has a daughter, Michal, my first grandchild. So, together as family of many generations to come--we thank you. Rest easy, Chosen One...you have stored up treasures in Heaven--I am a witness. Amen. So be it!

Through It All--Persevere!

I once read an intriguing definition for “persevere” in a Bible glossary. “Perseverance is the ability to endure hardship and suffering without complaining or becoming angry.”

Shall I take my own inventory of this essential fruit? I had a long history of trying to circumvent hardship and suffering by whatever means necessary. Especially, doing the easier, softer thing. “Hard choices were the wrong choices” was my motto. Choices made, decisions left unmade, habits, lusts, and envy contrary to everything the Word of God lovingly teaches. I also had a nasty habit of crying, moaning, and complaining at any hint of physical, emotional, and spiritual suffering. Now, I must also admit that most of the suffering in my life has been self-inflicted—even since embracing Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.

Where did my inability to persevere get me? So deep into the pits of despair that only a merciful and loving God could have dug me out. Also, always short of the marvelous plans that God intended for my life when I yielded to His will and cast all my hopes, cares, and concerns at the foot of the Cross.

And you know what else I found out about myself? Sometimes, like a drowning swimmer who fights the lifeguard that’s trying to save her, I have to be knocked out by life in order for God to pull me safely to shore.

However, once got the Word of God in me and built a personal intimate relationship with God, I saw the necessity to press my way—to persevere. As I kept my spiritual eyes on Jesus, the Holy Spirit imparted His strength and wisdom which allowed me to make the sometimes hard but right choices that propelled me closer to God’s perfect will for this life that He so graciously saved.

When I want to give up, and that thought enters my mind sometimes, I don’t. There are times when I want to stretch out on the road and cry out, “No more, life is just too hard!” But I’ve found that along the way somewhere God has changed my mind—my perspective—and I refuse to give up five minutes before the miracle happens.

I have found that when I call upon my Savior, I am given the ability that I could never give myself—no matter how many self-help books I read—to persevere. By the power of the Holy Spirit, I am able to go one more step, cast aside all fear, chase away my doubts, stomp down the enemy of my soul, speak life to my circumstances, command that the raging storm to cease and desist, write one more sentence, seize opportunities, let go the past, forgive myself and forgive the same person yet another time for the same thing I forgave him for the last time. I find that like I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

If there is ever a glossary in any of the books I write, under “perseverance” there will be a solitary picture—Jesus Christ—nailed to the cross. He was, is, and forever will be—the definition and the example.

Dear Heavenly Father: We want to be more like Jesus with each passing day. Help us to persevere this day. We know that without your help we will drown in our own pools of self-reliance. In Jesus’ precious Name we pray. Amen. So be it!

James 1:4 Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

Delay is Not Denial

"Delay is not denial," my agent said as she assured me that she had not forgotten my manuscript or me. It had been three LONG months since the work was finished, and I ached for publication details. Almost seven months later, her words were more than a haunting hope. They reminded that in God's time, not mine, more will be revealed.

The delay taught me to walk by faith and not by natural sight. Therefore, with the eyes of my faith, I saw the book. I felt the raised letters of the title spanned across the glossy cover. I smelled the fresh-inked pages. I saw myself at the podium of a packed auditorium as I read from sections book marked with neon-pink Post-its peeping over the pages. I experienced the "not yet" as if it already "was." Perhaps spiritual vision is sharpened in the delay.

After we have done our part, we turn all else over to God and stand on His promises while we wait for the results that He alone can orchestrate. His Word reminds us, "... though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely
come."

In this moment, perhaps God is saying to us: "Don't run ahead of me. I AM the Author and the Finisher of your faith. I AM in your past, present and future. My timing is always perfect. In the meantime, trust me and go on to the next thing of your life. When you least expect, I will reveal my perfect will that is immeasurably more than you could ever ask, think or imagine--Creator-made--just for you. Don't curse the delay! I reside in the delay."

Prayer: Father God, we acknowledge that you are still on the Throne. It is you who go before, with and ahead-working together all things for the good of us who love you and are called according to your purpose. Today, we cast our feeble efforts and looming anxieties at the foot of your Throne. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen. So be it!

I remember when...

I remember when I went to my first 12-Step meeting at the Trust Clinic in Washington, DC. The first person I saw that I knew was Frankie, my hit doctor.

For months, I looked for Frankie but He was missing-in-action. As my hit-doctor, I normally paid Frankie $5.00 or a portion of my heroin to find a vein in my neck willing to receive the contents of my hypodermic syringe. Nobody could “hit” me like Frankie. He was gifted--and missing no more.

On a side row of chairs with the sunlight streaming through the open blinds, there appeared to be a halo framing Frankie's tall, lean body. He smiled and seemed to take no thought of his missing front teeth as he chatted with the young woman beside him. His legs were crossed as he confidently sported feet clad in opened-stringed, dull-but-shined black combat boots.

“Frankie! Hey Frankie, where you been? I’ve been looking for you!”

“Hey girl, I been right here. Coming to these meetings. I’m clean now.”

“What? Clean! Frankie, you not shooting dope no more?”

“No, Stacey. I been clean for 9 months.”

“9 months, Frankie! 9 whole months!!!!”

“Yeah, girl! Glad to see you here, have a seat. You’re gonna be alright. ”

Bewildered, I sought further explanation. “Wait a minute, Frankie, you ain’t using nothing? No reefer? No liquor? No beer? Nothing, Frankie?”

“Nothing, Stacey. For real! Welcome to the program. We've been waiting for you.”

“We?”

I was interrupted by a heavy-set woman in the chair in the front of the room, “Hello Family, My name is Della and I'm an addict. Welcome to the noon meeting of…”

I glanced back at Frankie. He smiled and in a low voice said, “Just keep coming back, Stacey. It does get better.”

I scanned the room filled with of people of various races and ages. I settled into my end chair about 3 rows from the back of the room. As I looked across the room at the serene-version of Frankie, my ex-hit doctor, a peace flooded my soul. I sensed that my steps were indeed ordered by the Lord and that if He could change Frankie’s life, surely He could change mine.”

So began my journey in the 12-step program. My one-day clean has become 20 years of one-day-at-a-times and counting. For me and for Frankie.

Father God: When I'm experiencing doubts of any and every kind. Doubts about the plans and purposes that you have for my life and I wonder how can I get there from here--wherever the here is at the time I'm there. When I feel like I'm not as far up the road of my life and in my relationship with You as I think I should be, help me remember when... And upon remembering, may I fall to my knees and say, "Thank you, Father. Thank you for what you given, thank you for what you've taken away, thank you for the struggle for it has been in the struggle that I found my One true love. The lover of my soul--YOU!" Amen. So be it.
